Great to see you here riding! Nothing stays the same, Buttermilk is not the place it once was but that changed happened long before you started riding her. Change is good, the bank is gone (I told you I thought that it was still there but who really cares). Gone also is the alley on Blacks, the waterfall line on Horseshoe, the powder lines on the old lift line on the westside, crowded with carvers, powder thought to be gone early and on and on and on. The Milk still has perfect days, just different perfect days. Right Bob! Just FYI Mats, I hiked that area all summer long and the earth still remains the same. Find another bank to rip a railing turn on, they are all over the place! Love the place for what it is, love it for what it was. Send me that song bro!

Bromada’s “RIDE THE EDGE” weekly Mini Expression Session. Mini Expression Session and why? In 1999 Cliff Ahumada and Pure Carve Snowboards held the first “Pure Carve Expression Session” in Aspen, Colorado. Now twelve years later Cliff is railing back into the sport he is so passionate about. His new company “bromada” along with the Aspen Skiing Company has put together a weekly special events program aimed at getting alpine riders back on the hill in a controlled environment that will allow for some beautiful snowboard carving! Here’s the rap: Every Wednesday at Highlands is guest appreciation day and now officially part of that are “RTE” mornings. Come and meet Wednesday mornings in the main ticket area in front of the fireplace with Cliff and other alpine riders. Enjoy free muffins, free coffee, free parking and then load the selected “session lift” for that morning and head up to ride the selected “reserved session run” with your new friends. Long before the X-Games invaded town Buttermilk was known as the “north shore of carving” with its perfect grooming and rolling slopes perfect for surf style carving. “RTE” Friday mornings at the Milk is all about capturing that north shore feeling once again. Meet Cliff and others in Bumps to find out what is planned for the morning prior to heading up the hill. Where and when: Every Wednesday at Highlands 8:30, main ticket area in front of the fireplace. Every Friday at Buttermilk 8:30 inside Bumps restaurant. If your late, no worries, come on up when you can! What to expect on the hill: Highlands will have a “reserved run” for the RTE group each week from 9 am to 11:30 am. The selected run will be groomed to perfection for your carving pleasure. Depending on snow conditions there will be RTE mornings when you will be meeting @ 8 am and loading at 8:15 as part of the Highlands early tracks program. This part of the session will be starting sometime in February! Buttermilk you will meet Cliff and others in Bumps to find out what is planned for the morning prior to heading up the hill. When the X-Games are completed and mountain operations are back to normal there will be special events scheduled. For January and the first two weeks of February you will be meeting in Bumps @ 8:30 loading Summit Express 9 am. Information: Starting February first visit www.bromada.com for changes in schedule. Please remember that alpine riding is about snow conditions and safety. If it is an obvious big powder day and conditions are not condusive to carving then please plan on riding powder and have a great powder session on your own.

Anybody riding the Milk today? Rode it yesterday, empty perfection. X-games construction has scared away everyone, snow is really good, a little low to the ground but still happening. Hoping to film somebody, anybody for fun. Tried to grab you Bob but you were on a mission as usual, loving life smooth and fluid as a 25 year old surf rat charging down the line at the Wall in Baja! Always a pleasure to see you on the hill bro. Doyle returns today from Florida surf show, he is ready to charge! Joey is around but have not seen him.

Wow! Um? Where to start? Complicated topic. Old gear vs. new gear, is it really that black and white. We all know there are different levels of riders in this sport and for some a new board can and sometimes does make a difference, I see it on the hill. Then again I also ride with guys who ride boards that are 5, 6, 7 + years old and they have tried new boards and stay with what they have or they have all the above. <O:p</O:p There are so many variables at play that I have not seen mentioned on BOL (but then I don’t read every post either). Things like how the new board is tuned and waxed, conditions of the day, the morning fresh corduroy compared to the afternoon glaze. Are the bindings exactly set the same as on the old or other board, or should they be? You’re mood, your mental and physical state at that very time of demo. How long since your last ride? Crowded that day? Are you in shape to ride? Do you know what runs are groomed on swing vs. graveyard and why it matters? Or does it matter to you? Do you know what the afternoon glaze on a run is? Do you ever or have you ever just made one insane run and called it a day? Ever go out and rail @ 2:30 in the afternoon? Ever just sit and watch others make turns purely for the love of the arc with amazement? Have you ever hiked up the mountain to look at possible lines that you just can’t see when riding? Do you work the mountain in sections? Do you check the grooming report 2 days in advance of riding and do you know why that is important or do you care? Always ride fresh roy or do you challenge yourself with the afternoon chop on occasion? <O:p></O:p> Board selection is only one of many parts that make for a good day of riding. It is so much more involved than having a state of the art board (or are they really state of the art) to ride vs’s an old clapped out one or an old one in perfect condition or a new one not tuned, complicated. <O:p</O:p Looks like it’s gonna be sunny, firm and perfect tomorrow here in Aspen. Think I’ll grab one of 30 boards and go riding. Yep always better to let your riding do the talking… <O:p</O:p

Early lift loading, free muffins and coffee, free parking Highlands, video and other good stuff. All riders are welcome, all levels, all types of boots and bindings, new or vintage gear, whatever floats your boat! Details to follow as soon as I get them nailed. If weather is ugly or its a pow day then your on your own, have fun and break into your quiver, adjust and go big! For those of you who may have attended "Carvers Breakfast" years ago then you know what a mellow scene it is. I ask that you leave your ego in the parking lot, bring a smile, ride safe, dont run into me (kidding), thank the mountain managers personally, send emails to ASC (not yet please), have fun and remember who the best rider on the hill is... the one having the most fun. When you hit the "real" mountains swing over to Buttermilk for a day. Either Wednesdays Highlands or Fridays Buttermilk as I will be hosting "Carvers Breakfast" again. Reserved runs, early lift loading ahead of general public, free muffins and coffee, video and ???. It all starts next week. I will post official schedule as soon as details are for sure. Its a great way to meet other alpine riders, see what they ride and wear, riding styles, different levels and so on. good luck with your riding.

Hey Mark, Not specific to GoPro. Lots of editing options out there for mac. I'd suggest using one that is extremely user friendly if you want to keep your hair...as in pulling it all out after 8 hours of editing, it crashing, you not liking what you just edited, killing 12 coronas in the process, yelling at your kids not too bug you cause your on a mission, 12 more beers, thinking you saved it but where the hell is it, another 4 hours picking a 3 minute song to use, stoked to show somebody so u ask your 15 year old daughter but she rides soft boots and goes faster than you and sees you all the time on the hill screwing with your eye glasses so you can see what the heck the camera is doing...HD, 980,720 blah blah blah!! You know what they say...KISS...keep it simple stupid. good luck! Stoked to see others charging hard on the hill.

Thank you for the props! Yes I do the filming 99% of the time unless we're doing a shoot that I am riding in then I hire local help. I do all of the editing. Aspen Skiing Company has always been very, very helpful when I ask. They let us load before general public which is awesome and it helps so much to get the early light, no others on the hill. But I shoot whenever! Some of the lifts general public can download and other lifts I get permission.
