  1. Hey Queequeg, Hows it going? You may not remember the screen name, but I was the one that drove you and lisa to Belleayre for one of the group rides last year. Hope you two have been well. A weekend at stratton sounds awesome. Im interested but it depends on the pricing. What would it be for a third (me) or maybe fourth (my gf, though she doesnt really ride or ski well so I may plan a separate outing to involve her, lol)? Small chance I could borrow a car again like last year, depending on the date. Let me know! Best, Adiel
  2. I went to one of the Belleayre trips last year and it was great to meet everyone. I'm totally down to tag along this time (provided I have enough time to request that day off from work). I can probably make the Feb 27th, Mar 6th and 13th dates. Anyone plan anything yet? Happy trails, Adiel
  3. Hey Everyone, I'll be riding at Hunter Mountain a week from today. Anyone going to be around that day? Happy trails, Adiel
  4. Hey Mel, Thats a nice offer but unfortunately I have to work this weekend. Maybe another time. Have fun! -Adiel
  5. Hey all, Queequeg, Lili and I will hopefully be getting there around 9. Cafer, Ive saved your number in my phone and will call you when I get there. Im looking forward to learning people's real names. Im never really sure whether I should call people by their Bomber names over the phone, lol. See you all tomorrow! -Adiel
  6. Hey, I'm borrowing a car and will be driving from Brooklyn, NY. If you dont mind helping out with gas I'd be glad to pick some people up :) -Adiel
  7. Hey JT, Thanks for the help. Unfortunately there are no potter brothers in NYC but the good news is they will mail the lift tickets to you. So unfortunately I wont be able to make it on Feb 7th :( But Im still down for the 21st! Hope to see as many of you there as I can. -Adiel
  8. Hey, Im down for the 7th AND the 21st. Should be a great time. Im also in hardboots and looking for a few pointers. Havent been riding much this year so Im pretty rusty. Question though: How do I get the $25 discount tickets for those dates? Do I just show up and buy them at the door or do I need to buy online or something?
  9. I can probably make one or both of those sundays! -Adiel
  10. Hey, Be glad to meet you up there. If you do decide to go, feel free to call me up: 646 - 372 - 5758. Happy Holidays, Adiel
  11. Hey Guys, So, I'll be taking a bus trip to windham mountain on the 25th. Anybody interested in going? I know its christmas day but I figure theres gotta be someone else out there thats not a fan of Xmas as well, lol. For those of you in NYC I'll be riding up with the Emilio's Ski Shop bus from Homage skate shop in Brooklyn. Let me know! -Adiel
  12. Im REALLY glad that people have come out of the woodwork now that the winter is upon us! I hope we can make good use of this section of the ride board and meet up. I dont know if I'll be able to afford a whole lot of days on the hill this winter but I'll definitely try to get out when I can. I hope those few days I do go out can be spent with you awesome people :) Cheers, Adiel
  13. Hey, I'm interested in this board! Sending PM now. -Adiel
  14. Hey thats a good idea, I think I might start up a group for the NYC riders too. Good luck! May your riding days be numerous and your corduroy plentiful. Amen.
  15. Yeah, Ive thought about getting seasons passes in the past but decided against it. I like being able to go to different mountains and would feel kinda restricted to one if I had a season pass. Not that I ride enough days a season to merit a season pass...
  16. Thats great, It looks like there are a bunch of us that are willing to split the cost on gas. Ive been taking the emilios/blades bus trips as I usually have no other choice. I personally dont think theyre that bad but if I/we can save some money by splitting the cost of gas between a couple people thats even better! We definitely need to use the NY/NJ/PA ride board this winter and start a NYC crew. Also, Ive been wondering about maybe taking a lesson, Im sure Ive got loads of bad habits that need to be nipped in the bud. Maybe I'll try and schedule a lesson with przemek. Its getting colder out... low 60s tonight! WooHoo!!! :-/ (too desperate?)
  17. I leave you guys alone for TWO MINUTES and this is what happens!?!?! lol Thanks for ALL of your inputs. Believe it or not, in the madness and dispute of whether or not cants have a place in this thread you answered some other questions I had. When I originally posted on this thread I was wondering if there was a particular technique or subtle body position for staying straight at speed. I kinda figured that my inexperience was the major factor involved so its at least good to know that I just need more time on the mountain to dial in the balance and experience issues. Its also good to know that Im not trying to look for one specific way to set up my bindings and that comfort is actually a good thing :) I guess I'll just have to wait till its colder out to try to remedy the problem :( On a side note, I did get to try on my gear a day or two ago and I think Ive got some adjusting to do. Jack, you make a lot of sense. I just figured last season that all that uncomfortable forward lean was necessary. Im sure theres a middle ground between comfort and a good riding stance. Im gonna go find it. Thanks guys!!!
  18. Thats really interesting. I never would have attributed the problem to unnecessary muscular tension. I think I have 3 deg cants front and back, though I will admit I havent played around with my tuning very much. I ride alone for the most part so I havent had the benefit of advice from an expert when modifying my equipment or setting it up in the first place. I got the 3 degree cants in the first place because I figured it was half way between the 0 and 6 degree cants so it might be a good place to start, lol. Im realizing now that might have been a bad idea and that I probably shouldve done more research. Im going to take out my gear and try it all on and see how I feel when standing straight up and see if I can pinpoint any of that darned muscle tension. Maddman, my board is symmetric and though I'd love to try, I cant get any new cants at the moment. Plus, being that funds are limited, I'd rather be sure of what the problem is, THEN by new equipment than buy the equipment first to try and find out. Bordy, that sounds interesting: Up on your front toes and up on your back heel at the same time. Does that work for anyone else? It seems to me like that would create the same kind of muscle fatigue I get from trying to be ever so slightly on a single edge like I mentioned. BlueB, I'm thinking that I really should readjust the positioning of my bindings and cants but Im not sure how to go about it. When I set it up, I just made sure to do so in a way that gave me a comfortable stance. For example, I wasnt sure if I should have the cant aligned with the direction of the binding angles or off to the outside of the foot. I dont know if that makes sense, let me try to clarify. Im talking about having the cant set up straight forward with respect to my body so that my front toes are pointed 3 degrees upwards instead of rotating the cant so that my foot is angled slightly inward. Does that make sense? I hope so because it doesnt look like it does, lol. Is there a term for this particular aspect of tuning? I'll let you guys know what happens when I try on my gear again. Thanks!
  19. But I have problems going straight! (I'll thank you in advance for not making any sexual preference jokes, lol) Ive spent so much time working on turns and carving that I dont think I ever learned to go straight and just bomb a run. Im sure its just a positioning issue or maybe a weight distribution one. When I intend to go straight down the fall line and my board is flattened out (i.e. not edging at all), my board starts to drift so that my nose is no longer pointing down slope. Once this happens its really easy to catch an edge and face plant. Ive tried just barely putting my weight on one edge, just enough to go straight but its pretty taxing on the muscles to keep on the edge and NOT carve. Ive tried pulling my weight way to the back which does help me go straight but I end up having to pull it so far back that I lose a bit of stability and ability to avoid a sudden obstacle. Do you need to be on one of your edges at all times, even when going straight? Is it a result of the turny-ness of 9m sidecut? Is this a really wierd problem or do other people go through this as well? Theres not much I can do about it now seeing that 90 degrees outside, but it really bothered my last season and I'd like to know what Im doing wrong before the next.
  20. LOL, thats great stuff. Sorry I havent replied to your post in the NY, NJ, PA section of the ride board. I go through stages where Im obsessed with the bomber forums then other stages where I get wrapped up in the summer sports and barely look at it. Im psyched to hear of another newb in NYC! It was great to hear about all the experience riders too, but its good to know Im not the only learning. I'd be glad to share the bit of progress Ive made if you're interested. Let me be the first to say (if it hasnt already been said) Welcome to your newest, and hopefully longest lasting addiction :) -Adiel
  21. Hey Jetkin, Thats pretty funny, I didnt actually realize Brooklyn was Kings county till I already moved and was at the DMV. The lady told me it was kings county and on the inside I was thinking "sweeeeeet" and felt a little cooler, lol Yeah, Id be happy to lighten the terrible burden that is driving to the mountain by yourself What part of brooklyn do you live in? Im in Bed-Stuy. Im definitely up for some long boarding too. I usually do inline speed skating in prospect park so I havent gotten to know it very well on my long board just yet. Im definitely better on it than I am on snow, but that doesnt say much, lol. Are you interested in someday moving to hardboots, or are you content staying in softboots? Either way is cool, just curious.
  22. Thanks for the link DjulezD! Hey Ear Dragger, I would be more than happy to split the price of gas with you! Ive been wanting to go to stratton for a while now. I live in Brooklyn, so Im not sure where I would meet you since you'd be coming from Huntington but Im sure we can work something out. It'd be great to have someone to carve with thats so easy going. Congrats on the baby too!
  23. Im not sure what forum you mean. Does Blue Mountain have a forum that hardbooters have used to organize a gathering, or do you mean the PA section of BOL? Nice to meet you Erik. I have some friends that ride Mtn Creek, but they ride normal softies. Ive been meaning to check it out as Ive never been. Bellayre too, but most of the bus trips are to hunter or windham so thats usually where I go. Maybe I can hitch a ride with my friends and meet you for a run or two at Mtn Creek. My friends are usually in the park, how is it for carving?
  24. I am about 160 lbs so Im thinking weight isnt really an issue for 169 or 173 and its not really a factor. Am I right? Since I live in NYC I dont make it out a LOT. Only about 10 times a year (aiming for more). The past few years Ive been doing one major trip per winter so a week long vacation with 5 days of riding can be up to 50% of my riding for a winter. Wintergold, Im with you . The "neither fish nor flesh" philosophy makes sense to me. The 173 sounds like a better bet. But, what do you mean "more" time during turns? Does that mean what it sounds like or do the quotations you used mean something different? :P Scrapster, I think I'd be willing to sacrifice a little bit of flickability by going to the 173. Im also banking on the fact that it will be just all around easier to use because my new board will undoubtedly have a softer flex than my current board. 11m scr would definitely be better for our local mountains, but I want something that would be good for anywhere as I dont see my self expanding my quiver past 2 any time soon. When you say "freeride board", do you mean a regular softboot setup or was it an all mountain alpine board?
  25. Hey All, Sorry for not replying for a while, Ive had computer issues the past couple of days. Scrapster, you bring up a really good point. Seeing as how Ive only ridden one alpine board I probably am not familiar with what exactly Im looking for. At this point Im looking for something half way. By half way I mean medium flex, not short but not long for stability and maneuverability, medium scr, etc etc. I do know that Im leaning towards narrower widths because I like the lightning fast edge to edge transitions. The board Im currently on is very narrow at about 18cm so that should be a problem. I would like to demo a load of boards but I dont know if Im going to be able to make it to the ECES this season and thats pretty much my only option for demo'ing boards. As for the other brands I think that I'll be sticking with the Prior WCR metal unless I can get a good deal on a used coiler, silberpfeil or donek. I would, however, like to reiterate my question regarding side cut and length. The two priors Im looking at are similar in size to other boards on the market and Im not sure which size I want. One is a 169 with a 11m scr and the other is a 173 with a 12m scr. My current board is a 163 with a 9m scr. If all else is identical (brand, stiffness, etc) what can I expect by upgrading to one of those two sizes?
