  1. sigh. you snooze you lose. anyone else have one of these for sale? thanks!
  2. great, thanks for the replies looks like I probably wont be disappointed nomatter what I get along these lines. I seem to be leaning towards the Donek Axxess 172 since we dont get too much "off piste"-like terrain here on the east coast where I am - mostly groomed that turns into a sloppy mess at the end of the day. . now comes boots/bindings is the mondo size measured barefoot or with a sock? i think i'm a 27 barefoot on the left and 27.5 on the right
  3. Last season I purchased a long softboot setup and played around a lot with the binding angles and really carving and loved it. After over a decade of riding a soft setup I think it's time I try something new. What I am looking to do since I'm primarily an east coast rider is to get a setup that will allow me to ride the entire mountain. I love carving and improving myself on groomers, but then a few hours later I will want to do some glades or an ungroomed black and not have to switch boards let alone boots. I'm not a guy with a quiver, I only want one setup. After doing some research I have narrowed my choices down to the following pretty much: Prior ATV Prior 4WD Donek Axxess Donek Axis The 4WD and the Axis are real similar from what I can tell. The Donek being slightly stiffer and more aggressive I think. The ATV slightly wider with less SCR and EE. So I dont know for sure. A big help would be if i knew which board I won't outgrow. I am a beginner to hardboots, however not a beginner to snowboarding and will likely get accustomed to it quickly and want to keep rolling with the same setup for at least a few seasons. Thoughts? Also, I am 6'0" and roughly 185-190lbs. Should I do a 167 or perhaps the 172? My weight range suits both sizes according to the Prior website. Would these sizes be too big to traverse around the small Eastcoast resorts? my current deck is a 164 CustomX and I do fine on it. Thanks for all the help with these nooB questions!
  4. wondering if infact any shops in the state even carry this type of equipment. would like to try on some boots. on that note i saw that some of you offered to let me try out a spare set of carving equipment when i mentioned i was interested in going freecarve. is this something normal to accept? i mean i would love to try out the sport, but i dont want to be rude and impose on anyone or their gear.
  5. i was just about to fix that, i was comparing the nose to the tail editing :flamethroheheh managed to find some reviews in german http://www.ciao.de/Oxygen_Supercross__16127 that's the board
  6. shoulda written down the specs, but i was in a hurry to get home before i fell asleep driving. stopped at a local shop and while they dont carry any specific freecarving or hardbooting equipment, they showed me a 2004 Oxygen SuperX 159 i believe. Was a pretty solid board, brand new he offered it to me for $150. I want to jump on it but i don't know / have any luck finding any info or specs about it online (the board at the shop didnt have a factory sticker on it). tail is not as round as the nose, not completely flat though. any help/advice/info would be awesome.. im going to keep trying to find something about it online basically i would need someone's opinion on the board and some specs if available. waist, scr, stiffness, etc.. it seemed pretty stiff when i did my manly flex it on the floor test with it compared to my customx. would this be a good board to put my soft bindings/boots on, or would that defeat the purpose.. i'm looking to have an all mountain board with a soft setup and a freecarve specific board with plates by next season if everything takes off!
  7. decided to hit up mtn creek today since its never really busy midweek. still riding the soft setup since it's the only one i have so far. Burton CustomX 164 Ride Tomcats DC something boots fooled around with binding angles, went as far as 51/42 and liked it, uncomfortable if you need to stop and kneel but dont do that too often anyway. as far as riding today went, it was pretty hardpacked, small layer of dust on top with thick hardpack underneath. very fast snow, caused me to wash out a little when i was trying to get my edge in at lower speeds. turned back my angles a little bit, something like 45/30 and i seemed to have a little more dig. still wasnt satisfied with my turns today though. dont know if it was the snow, my board, my ability or a combination of the above. i had some real nice carves but they were all pretty short ) shaped ones. i attempted going across the trails more, making C shaped carves, but the board would wash away just enough to crap out the carve once i started going perpendicular to the slope, back wasnt perfectly following the front ja know. my board probably isnt as stiff as i would like it to be, and the waist and scr arent optimal for what i want it to do i suppose. 25cm and 9meters or so i think? what are your opinions/advice on today's ride? i'm thinking about hanging up the burton (just bought it this season) and getting a stiffer board with bigger scr for all around riding (read post about Oxygen) thanks in advance
  8. i'll be there at opening on wednesday, but i'll probably be leaving around 4pm or so.. gonna be carving it softie and fooling around with my binding angles all day. :D anyone else plan on goin out? snowing right now in NJ, should make for OK conditions come weds
  9. couldnt get off work and make it out, oh well. i'll probably be going to mtn creek midweek this week. wish i coulda gone out to meet some of you and demo some of windhams stuff, next time.
  10. well i still havent heard from windham regarding demo/rental alpine equipment so i will be calling them tomorrow. reading through the posts it seems that 5 of you think i could/maybe-should bump myself up to a hard setup and not look back. then there are 3 of you who say to stick with the soft setup a little longer and increase my ability. sample size isnt that big so im saying it's still a toss up. so far i have been really enjoying my setup this season and wouldnt mind increasing my skills on the soft stuff. i refuse to believe that i cannot carve full C's into the mountain on my customX. i was fooling around with the binding angles last night and bumped it up a little bit. i set them at 54/45 and tried it out on the living room floor. stance seems OK albeit a little extreme for livingroom carpet carving. totally different on the mountain though so we will see if this helps me get those full C's at speed! i had an exam today, and still 2 more this week, so i'm thinking i might be at mountain creek on thursday morning to reward myself.. date is still tentative though we'll see if i survive midterms
  11. im actually not too far from blue mountain, 2.5 hours or so. where can i keep up to date on when your next carve session will be? i would like to see the equipment up close and perhaps even try something out. wouldn't want to impose though as far as windham is concerned, i still havent heard back from them regarding their demo equipment. should be giving them a call sometime mid-week.
  12. awesome, well i am not sure i want to completely give up the soft set up just yet.. i could always sell it later on down the road. I think i will be joining some of you folks at Windham next weekend. I emailed them to see what kind of setups they offer to demo and should be hearing back from them soon. worst case i'll just increase my current angles... 51/33. the rear could be a lot more forward. however my knees dont like it very much.. whats up with that? in need of some cant i suppose? :D
  13. grab some popcorn, here is my story, i'll try and keep it short. john, 22yrs old, graduating college this semester. snowboarder for roughly 10 years. Have always been fascinated by freecarvers and hardbooters and have myself slowly progressed into a carver, rather than a park rider i suppose. this season really started to dig in the edge.. and i am loving it! still have a few questions though. I purchased an entire new setup this season as my old one was about 8 years old. Not completely sure I wanted to go hardboot, i stayed with a soft setup, however my board went from a 156 to a 164 and my angles have been increasing.. Still wondering if i should add a freecarving board to my stable. Not sure if this board is condusive to carving deep ruts that hardbooters do. I am able to do "the norm," i feel the board carving, i look back and see ruts in the snow, good. however i am not really able to carve complete C's. my carves are more the shape of parenthesis ( opposed to C. i find that i lose a considerable amount of speed attempting to do the full C - in going perpendicular to the slope and i have yet to attempt to carve the downhill edge, again the speed is so decreased by the time i try to get to that point. am i digging in too hard? is the board not stiff enough? i also attempt to do carves on the greens, i can get a great carve going but the whole time it feels like i should be going faster. leaning more feels like i would be on the ground, not sure what that means, technique is probably not correct. i was followed by a rider through some blues and greens yesterday and he complimented how smooth my carves were once we reached the lift. went along with him for a few more runs and it turns out he is a 58yr old who has been snowboarding for 20+ years. had a tough time keeping up with this guy! the compliment definitely gave me an ego boost and helped persuade me to become more of a carver and even a hardbooter in the near future. here are the board specs incase some of you are curious '06 Burton Custom X 164 1285mm effective edge 250mm waist width 8.46m sidecut radius bindings and boots are soft set up angles are 51/33 but those have been changing rapidly oh and i am 6'0" and roughly 185lbs could the soft set up be hindering me and keeping me from reaching full potential? the board? i would like to think not and that it is just my skill level that needs improvement in any case, let me know what you all think and it is nice meeting you all!
