I have an old burton alp 7.0 that is asym and maybe 9m scr. Have not rode it in 10 or maybe 15 years. Maybe I will set it up and try it on some slower runs.

Wondering what people like to ride best on crowded slopes or off days when conditions are bad or just taking it easy, slower carving, just cruising, etc... Approximate side cut radius, length, stiffness if you have it. Thanks.

Looking for a cant plate for use with my burton race plate bindings and non-burton board (i.e. 4-hole not 3-hole mounting to deck). Does anyone have one or know where I can buy a new one from Ibex (don't need the bindings just a single cant plate)? Thank you!

Anyone have a swoard deck they are looking to get rid of. I weigh 210 lbs. Looking for a board with less sidecut and wider waist for "extreme carving" or whatever they call it.

Andrew- Was fun riding with you up at cascade mtn. I live in iowa city, but plan to make an annual family trip to the Dells/Cascade mtn. I liked cascade...not a bad place my midwest standards. I used to ride whatever angle would keep my toes and heels on the board. Strangely I think my rear foot ended up with a steeper angle due to the narrower part of the board back there. I had a lot of fun riding soft flexy boards in soft snow with that setup.

i think I had one of the Madd softie boards from way back in like 1992 maybe?? and come to think of it.. I think it did delaminate (like Bobdea said). I think it had some red and white plaid graphics on it..and maybe it was actually a k2 board that they put the madd mikes logo on it? I remember going to Madd Mikes in Boston and it was a wind-surfing / snowboarding shop..I think. Does that make sense? or am I remembering this wrong? After it de-lammed k2 sent me a new board (without the madd mikes logo). I never made the connection that that was the same "Madd". I had hair back then... at least I have better gear now. :)

Thanks for sharing your experiences and advice. It may be a long-shot for me to find a decent job but it is one I am shooting for...It is the first thing that I have truly been excited about in a while...so I'll keep sending in resumes and keep my fingers crossed. Maybe I'll get an interview out there and be out there yet this winter season. If so I will give you a shout. -Adam

interesting discussion about side-cut radius..clothoid...etc. I have never raced but own two WCR's (one with 13m radius, the other with 10m radius). Those boards are so much fun for "free-carving"...the 13m is crazy high-speed fun agressive fun.

A long boarding, snow boarder in Indiana...I am sorry. Your plight may be similar to mine: I grew up life-gaurding on the east coast Newport, RI, and skiing NH/Vermont/Maine. Now I live in Iowa and my main recreation is going out to eat. I do play a little volleyball but I keep getting fatter and more bored everyday. Thanks for the info on Santa Fe. -Adam

Yeah...I had a partnership that kind of didn't work out the way I would have liked...so now I am taking some time to get things sorted out. I'm between jobs so if you want to head up to Sundown sometime I am available. I could pick you up in CR. We will be in Florida 12/26 - 1/2, but other than that I am game. Shoot me an email whenever. I've been looking at relocating to the santa fe / albequerque area...was wondering if any one felt like offering their insights on snowboarding, jobs, housing, or anything else. I'm a structural engineer guy currently looking for jobs out there. My wife is an elementary school principle. The weather and high property taxes have got me down in Iowa. Is the climate as nice as it seems out there? I spent a week in Taos a few years back during late March and I thought it was amazing (ski taos then drive around in a jeep with the top down in 70 degree weather - go hiking, etc). That's how it was the one time we were out there. Any thoughts would be be appreciated. -Adam

I agree...you can blame labor for high prices...but you can't blame them for crappy product (IMO). With regard to crappy products...I think this country has had a love affair with "management" over the last few decades...engineers are scoffed at like a bunch of silly detail oriented folks who can't see the "big picture". Probably not a team player if you look too critically at something. And you wonder why our products are crappy... This is coming from one of those silly, detail-oriented, non-team-player, engineer types :)

To C5 Golfer: I guess I didn't want to take a chance on losing some of the stiffness and carvability by going to a more all-mountain board. Like you said, maybe that will be my third board in a year or two. BTW..I mistated the exchange rate earlier...it is .77 US to 1.00 CAN. So a $1000 canadian board costs $770 US. Not too bad right now. -Adam

I hope your right Chris. If I like it as much as I did the 181 I will be a really happy guy - and I'll be less likely to kill someone on the slopes - so a win-win for everyone. The 181 is still awesome, but man you have to have some space and some speed. I once had a skier tell me in the lift line that I sounded like a 727 jet when I went by him on the 181 - funny... (this is in Iowa where people seldom see carving). Thanks again everyone for your help...I will let you know how it turns out. -Adam

Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions. I ordered a Prior WCR 169 metal. It is just the standard non-custom deck which has 19.5 cm waist (same as my 181). I haven't had a problem with the width on that board so I decided to stick with it here. The side cut radius is around 10m - I think my 181 was at 13m so this should be a lot more turny. I thought I might as well try out the metal thing too. Should have it in three weeks...thanks everybody for helping me stimulate the economy. BTW it is a good time to buy Canadian..the exchange rate is about .87 US to $1.00 CAN right now. If anyone thinks I screwed up real bad...give me a last warning.

Thanks for the replys...What is a Shtubby or Bus? I put an email in to Coiler maybe they will get back with me. There is nothing by those names on the website, is it a newer model? Also put an email in to Prior and Donek to see if they might have something that will do the stuff I am looking for. Fastskiguy, maybe send me an email if you are heading up there. It is hard for me to break away but I can do it with a little notice and arm twisting. I get to CO once or twice a year and hit Sundown maybe 4 or 5 times per year. My first carving board was a burton Alp 7.1 I think. It was probably 1994, asym,with blue stained wood graphics. I rode it for a while and enjoyed it but did not know what I was missing. SInce I picked up a PriorWCR181 it opened a whole nother world of carving. I am still riding the same crappy burton plates and boots that I bought back in 94 and they seem OK. I think the geometry of the deck has the most obvious effect on your riding (the bindings/boots are secondary). Try to find a deck that is meant to do what you want it to do, and make sure it is stiff enough for your weight - thats my suggestion.
