Locking the forward lean of the rear boot

I ride Head Strato Pros that have been modified to give me easier forward flex.  They come with a simple flip up/flip down tab in back.  For racing, I get as much forward flex as possible and lock down both boots.  For freeriding, the tabs are up.

Maybe my boots are too soft.  I figured at age 72 I didn't want a stiff ride.  I do have the original stiffer gray tongues that I can reinstall as a test.  Although when I ride with Dalbello Krypton ski boots I feel I'm not getting sufficient forward flex and wind up unbuckling the top buckle.
