it's almost that time of year again. the testing of who can get the lowest, who can smile the biggest, who can last the longest, and who can eat the most sugar after lunch! oh wait, there's also the contest between bobble and bionicman for the camera curse award! :biggthump

weds, FEB 1, 2017 9:30am - ?  (and i have NOT seen the lift started before 9:30 yet this year. silly vail policies/rules)

afton alps www.aftonalps.com lift tickets are $48 on the preferred program, $53 not on the program

bring your lunch or money to purchase food. as usual, there will be plenty of homemade food from the sugar group.

invite everyone you know who gets mad anytime they leave more than a pencil line in the snow! or anyone who wants to leave only a thin line.

36 degrees the night before Is the forecast righ now, looks like it's going to be colder the next week.

Probably kinda late to reschedule but it might be sketchy to be on a carve board this coming Wednesday.

The good ol', dependable, Minnesota January Thaw. Add to that 3"+ of wet snow.

ugh. the snow absolutely sucks right now. i was at afton all weekend, and it's way too soft to hold any sort of aggressive carving. sure, we COULD right more upright, but that isn't the picts i posted above! ;-)

let's reschedule. i'm checking with afton right now on the next few weds to make sure there isn't any big events on their calendar. once i hear back, i'll reset the date. right now, i'm hoping for weds, 2/1 as it looks like the snow has a chance to be in decent shape again by then.

I just put the really stiff gray tongue back in this is my front boot. I used them tonight at Buck, I really miss the stiffer boot. The stiff tongues seem to make these cants or even if the back is locked in irrelevant.

Pot-shots from the chair lift.

Thanks for the good time and good turns. You got to love playing weekday hooky; It was almost as if the place was open, just for us!

Next year...

Excellent condition, as I have only used it on rare occasions on perfect groomers early in the morning. It's been sitting in my locker for a few years, so it's time for me to get rid of it.

I took a drive to Chilliwack today and the surounding peeks were white! That's a good enough reason to start this year's thread 😁
Hopefully not too long before we see the white stuff on our mountain too!

A little run on one of my Fullbag longboards, specificaly tuned for carving. We filmed this at sunset, late last fall, after an afternoon of slalom skateboard practice. First experiment filming with an iPhone on a gimbal. It was cold, sub zero celcius, thus the winter jacket and snowboard helmet. I will try to add more little clips of pavement carving on skateboards in this thread, once in a while.

i have moved from denver to albuquerque, and i want to get out some info on carving from ABQ.  6 months ago i would have had trouble locating ABQ ona map; now i iive here -- quite happily.
      first item: ski sante fe.
has a nice, local feel.  no fast chairs.  excellent grooming and solid carving.
      updates to follow.
