Neil Gendzwill
As part of the 150th anniversary of Confederation, they are giving away free national parks passes, shipping included. If you're planning to ride in the Banff area, pick one up!
trailertrash
The site says entry is free in 2017. Are they really going to make you pay if you don't have this free pass?
Neil Gendzwill
Well, it is a government operation. So what they need to do is set up a website, and pay the cost of production of the passes and the shipping, and then also pay to have people sitting at the park gates checking these passes, and also for park rangers to check parked cars' windshields to make sure they have the free pass. Just letting people in for free would be anarchy and not cost the taxpayers enough money! Edited December 15, 2016 by Neil Gendzwill
Allee
I got one for the sole reason that it's good for opening automatic gates after everyone goes home. Coming back into Waterton after a motorcycle ride, and finding the gates locked at 8pm in the summer, is a total drag. Apart from that, I think it only has souvenir value (hey, it has a beaver on it after all). It will be great to not have to wait half an hour on the Sunshine road for pass checks next year, though. Allee
They sure do. When I used to go to Sunshine a lot, there would be 2-3 times a season I'd meet the parks checkpoint, handing out fines to people they busted without passes.
