Hopefully Al will give us a first hand report.

Most places around here now have decent carving conditions─still not 100% open, but cold enough to make snow and lake effect is starting to kick in. rwmaron and I are planning a midweek Indianhead trip sometime in January. We will file a report then. :biggthump Long range forecasts are looking good for the next couple of weeks.

Lake effect dropped about 5" snow near Marquette yesterday (only about 1" near Indianhead) according to the web snow reports. Someone once posted that Marquette Mt was a good place to carve. I've never been there, but the lake effect seems consistently stronger in that area. You should check it out on your way to Indianhead and give us a comparison report.

Spent 14 days riding at Indianhead over the holidays, primarily on two runs. Base is thin but enough cover to minimize dirt spots. They had no measurable new snow for 2 1/2 weeks so runs are lumpy, newer ones are narbelly, all man made snow. They could get 6-12" later this week but I wouldn't drive 10 hours for it. Fly 4-6 and hit CO, NV, CA or WA.

Great day today! :biggthump Started with flat light that gradually improved all morning and turned into patchy sunlight :1luvu: . Snow was a bit crunchy in spots, but still one of the better days on snow for us in the mid-west this year. Rode from 9-3:45 (we skipped the last run). We'll be out there in the morning again!

Some action from this afternoon

Had a great couple of days riding at Indianhead. Thanks for sharing your hill with us Al. It was fun to be in the whirlwind of your celebration.

1st tracks Friday morning was pretty sweet. :1luvu:

A minute and a half down Old Flambeau... :ices_ange

This run used to be covered with rails and jumps making carving tricky. Apparently they have moved all the hazards and obstructions to free carving over to Blackjack. A good move in my opinion.

Couple of good days at Indianhead and Blackjack.  As forecast, hills were refreshed with lake effect snow prior to our arrival.  Blackjack had some ungroomed runs with about 5" of fresh fluff. Thursday was pretty empty at both hills, Friday at Indianhead got busier as the day progressed. Got to make first tracks both days:biggthump

Met another carver on the hill today, Brian.

Al was nowhere to be seen, so we left the carver's calling card...IMG_0814 (640x482).jpg
