A great week of snow means a great weekend of conditions and more terrain opening and more resorts opening too! New snow here is as of Friday morning, storm totals are since Monday night. Here are some highlights: Angel Fire is now open... Pajarito will open on Saturday... Sandia Peak has moved their opening to tentatively Sunday... Taos has the Brewmaster Festival on Saturday.... Red River opens more terrain... Durango Mtn opens the backside on Saturday and has Salomon Snowboard demo day on Sunday. This report brought to you by Angel Fire Resort where they kick off the season on Friday (Dec. 19) with the annual benefit day. Tickets will be $15 on Friday with all proceeds going to NMX Sports. In addition, this season kids 12 and under ski, eat and stay free at the Resort hotel with an accompanying paying parent. Winter Forecast: An updated Winter forecast came out on Nov. 20. It calls for a normal winter in terms of precip December through February for the ski area locations of NM and Southern Colorado. Check out the details here.

Sandia Peak: 4 New. 21 Storm. 24 Inch Base. Scheduled opening has been moved to Sunday, Dec. 21, but that date could still change based on snow conditions and amounts. A final opening decision will be made on Friday afternoon. Check your favorite radio station web site (links at the bottom of this email) late Friday for the final decision. Normal lift ticket rates for the new season are up $3 to $48 for an adult all day ticket. Teen (13-20) rates are $38. The Skier Plus Card is a great way to save money. The card is $40 and offers $12 off all day $4 off half day all lift at Sandia Peak and Ski Santa Fe except 12/25-1/1 at Santa Fe.

Santa Fe: 0 New. 23 Storm. 44 Inch Base. 23 runs open (85% of the lower mtn). The Super Chief Quad Chairlift, Easy Street Beginner Chairlift and Pine Flats Mitey Might are open. The Chipmunk Corner Children's Center and the "New Carpet Conveyor Lift" is open. All facilities are open. Until more of the mountain is open, lift tickets are priced at $39 for an adult all day ticket, teen $35, child/senior $33.

Taos Ski Valley: 4 New. 28 Storm. 50 New This Week. 52 Inch Base. 20 runs open now and 8 chairs running. Skiing and boarding on both sides of the mountain now. Friday is the last day where adult all day tickets are discounted to $40. Teen (13-17) tickets are $30. On Saturday, it's the annual Brewmaster's Festival... Bring your friends and sample beers from 25 breweries from across the Southwest region. Located in Tenderfoot Katie's and the Martini Tree Bar, $20 entry fee. The festival runs from 4:30-7pm. There will also be several local restaurants sampling their food. 21 and over.

Angel Fire: 4 New. 23 Storm. 47 New This Week. 35 Inch Base. Friday is Benefit Day with all lift tickets priced at $15. 100% of the lift ticket proceeds will be donated to NMX Sports, a New Mexico non-profit organization dedicated to introducing youth to outdoor recreation. 61/76 runs open. 6/6 lifts. In terms of what's new this season... several on mountain chanages starting with Liberation Park. The halfpipe is being removed to nearly double the size of Liberation to include more jumps, funboxes and rails. The halfpipe will be repplaced with a "trick ditch," a smaller scale "ditch" that will still allow riders to work on their pipe skills. Next on the mountain, another new ten-acre glade skiing area was cut during the off season. The new run, Bear Glade, is on the backside of the mountain. This will be the fourth glade ski area addition in the past three seasons. Finally, the 120-room slopeside lodge is currently undergoing a remodel, with a new fitness center, refurbished meeting facilities, upscaled common areas, and four "showcase" hotel rooms providing a preview look at the finished product. The remodel also includes a comprehensive facelift for the exterior of the hotel. Lift tickets this season remain the same price as last season with adult all day tickets $59 and teen (13-17) tickets $52. The Sunday Only season pass is available again this year for $149.

Pajarito: 1 New. 22 Storm. 40 Inch Base. Pajarito Mountain will open on Saturday, December 20. Spruce, Beginner, Aspen and Mother Lifts will run each day from 9AM till 4PM. Townsite Lift will be opened within a few days. Pajarito has two new special cards... the Pajarito Prestige Card and the Home for the Holidays Pass. With the Prestige Card, skiers and snowboarders who buy three regular-price lift tickets get the fourth lift ticket free. The Card is available at to all Pajarito skiers and snowboarders, and the cycle of three regular-price tickets with the fourth one free can be repeated as many times during the season as desired. Card use begins January 1, 2009. Only one lift ticket may be purchased per Card per day. For more information on the Pajarito Prestige Card, please call the business office at 662-5725. The Home For the Holidays Pass is back. Just in time for the holidays, Pajarito Mountain Ski Area is once again offering the Home for the Holidays Pass. This Pass is available to the immediate family of Los Alamos Ski Club members, and is perfect for returning college students or family members who have moved away from the area but are 'Home for the Holidays.' The cost is $175.00, and the Pass is valid December 19, 2008 through January 19, 2009. A perfect Christmas gift. For more information on the Home for the Holidays Pass, please call the business office at 662-5725. In terms of what's new... Lots of work has been accomplished on the mountain over the summer. The Terrain Park has been moved from the bottom of Lumberyard up to Easy Mother and has been vastly improved. New rails and boxes will be installed to complete the Park upgrade. A great deal of brush and deadfall has been cleared from several parts of the mountain. A recent-model used Bombardier snowcat has been added to the grooming fleet, permitting improved grooming capability (including the Terrain Park) this season, with more consistency. New seat pads for the Åspen chairlift have been installed. The Pajarito Café is undergoing a significant upgrade, including the new kitchen equipment has been purchased, and the layout of the food service area is being reconfigured to improve traffic flow and efficiency. Signs for the base area have been ordered. These will be installed for the season. Adult all-day lift tickets are up $4 this year to $49. Teen (13-17) rates are $40 for all day.

Red River: 8 New. 27 Storm. 39 New This Week. 40 Inch Base. 32/56 runs open. 4/7 chairs. Now open daily. The Gold Rush Terrain Park is now open.

Sipapu: 5 New. 41 Storm. 51 New This Week. 36 Inch Base. 41/41 runs open. 4/4 lifts. Now open daily. Adult tix are still $25 with kids tickets at $15.

Ski Apache: NR New. 1 Storm. 1 New This Week. 3/11 lifts running. 10% of the mountain is open.

Enchanted Forest XC: NR New. 13 Storm. 20 New This Week. 15 Inch Base. 100% of trails open. Now open daily.

Valles Caldera National Preserve: Will open when snow conditions allow.

Durango Mountain Resort (Purgatory): 15 New. 40 Storm. 64 New This Week. 49 Inch Base. 30 runs open with chair #1 (6 pack chair) and the Columbine beginner area is now open as well with both chairs running. Lift 2 (Engineer) is now open as well. Among the runs open: Upper & Lower Hades, Paradise, Pandomonium, Catharsis, Pitchfork, Mercy, Nirvana, Walk-a-Lot, Middle Bank, Cherub & Limbo. Lift 3 on the backside will open on Saturday. Lifts 5 and 8 on the backside will open as conditions allow. Adult tickets are $35, student/senior tickets will be $29, and kids tickets will be $21. This Sunday is Salomon Snowboard demo day. Check our their new board and try out out from the tent in the Village area.

Wolf Creek: 7 New. 43 Storm. 75 New This Week. 66 Inch Base. 100% of the mountain is open now and all chairs are running including the Alberta chair and the waterfall area. Tickets are now at regular prices ($52). Wednesday, Dec. 17th, Icelantic Boards will demo all their latest alpine and telemark skis. The Pagosa side access to the ski area is closed until at least noon on Friday. Access from the West Fork (East) side is open. For updates on road conditions including Wolf Creek Pass between Pagosa and the ski area, contact the Colorado State Patrol at 877-315-7623.

Silverton Mountain: 24 New. 69 Inch Base. Open Fridays through Sundays. Will be open Thursday through Sunday starting January 8. Guided Only skiing starts Jan 15. Right now if you want a guide, a reservation is required.

Telluride Resort: 12 New. 27 Storm. 59 New This Week. 60 Inch Base. 57 runs are open now with all chairs now open and the new Revelation Bowl is now open. Early season (through Dec. 19) ticket rates are $69.
