  1. Agreed. I know Dave puts his heart and soul into these events, and this is a real shame.
  2. LOL, I just did, but that's cool! Yeah, the liners I have are out of my UPZ 27's. I thought I still had my old 26.5 Black Diamonds, but looks like I've tossed them. Good luck with the sale!
  3. Let me go have a look in my storage unit. I MIGHT have some UPZ stock liners, but they might be 27's. Might be a couple of days before I swing past there tho.
  4. Steve and son Brad are frequently out at Nakiska and would be great company for you. Plus he has a bunch of alpine boards that I'm sure he'll be happy to loan you for a day. If you can manage a couple of nights away then you should take James up on his offer. The drive to Revy is breathtaking, Revy is a wonderful little mountain town, and the hill's better carving than you'd find around Banff. Plus James is an amazing rider who makes you better by osmosis.
  5. LOL! I bought it, read two chapters, abandoned it when an audiobook came into the library and never went back to it. It will probably be next January before I read it. I preordered the last book in the Olivie Blake's Atlas trilogy for Jan 2024 too, that will probably suffer the same fate.
  6. I'm really surprised that Nakiska, the closest hill to Calgary, hasn't jumped on this bandwagon. As far as I can tell, the resort sits idle all summer - there's no hiking access or biking trails there, despite it being located in a high traffic summer activity area. Calgary is a big city with a huge MTB population, but the nearest lift accessed riding is three hours away at either Fernie or Kicking Horse. The Banff hills have summer gondola access and Sunshine's gets to some great hiking, and Lake Louise is busier in the summer than the winter - but RCR seems content to let Nakiska sit empty for months at a time. Maybe they need a few more bad snow years to convince them.
  7. Interesting that MTB tourism is booming in Canada as well, I can only imagine that e-bikes have a lot to do with that. https://www.wired.co.uk/article/ski-adaptations-climate-change-paganella-italy?lid=poajx3beuhpk
  8. Going to second everyone's recommendations for Canada, because your exchange rate is giving you 25% right now and it's likely to stay that way. Calgary is a cheap flight and well serviced from Portland. There's tons of off piste stuff for everyone to do in Banff (bring your wallet), it's a iconic town with dining and nightlife. The other place I'd suggest is Revelstoke. I adore Revy, it's the cutest little town, and I've heard amazing things about the resort even though I've never personally been. If you wanted to road trip a little and had a vehicle, it's a four-ish hour drive from Banff to Revy through some stunning scenery and a few days at each place would make for a pretty cool trip.
  9. Good news if you're a size 24. Shame. I would have scored a set of their tour liners.
  10. Oh no!! I found that out when I went to Whitefish too ... luckily I still had a paper copy in the glovebox of the car, or I'd have been sitting at the border crossing as well. Hope round 2 goes better!
  11. Sorry I didn't stick around long this weekend! The girls wanted to shop and party on Saturday and I couldn't see the top of the hill from town, sounds like it was much of the same Saturday as Friday. Glad the crew's having fun.
  12. We're in the same boat here. Temps above freezing this weekend, and no snow for a couple of weeks now. It's very thin here, bad even for early season.
  13. I was going to ask - who had to get evac'ed off Chair 1? I can only imagine that was a disaster in the middle of the busiest week of the season ...
  14. This cold snap is brutal. Should keep that new snow in decent shape though. Are you looking forward to the Christmas crowds, lol?
  15. Got a motel booked for the weekend of Jan 20-22. Hope some of you are around, looking forward to being back! it's been too long.
  16. For all the fans of Ninth House, the second book Hell Bent is out January 10. You're welcome.
  17. Does MEC even sell MEC any more? Last time I was in there I don't think I even saw any MEC branded stuff.
  18. Taiga Works looks like they're still around. Looks like they're not doing full Goretex any more, but might be worth a look. https://www.taigaworks.com/collections/shell-garments
  19. I bought a local season pass this year. I' haven't bothered for the last 2 seasons because of the covid restrictions, but now it's business as usual I'll get back out there.
  20. Things are a little different in NZ than they are in the rest of the world - although I hear it's likely all your restrictions will be lifted in the next couple of weeks as well. For the most part, the rest of the world has already moved on. Here in Alberta you're not even required to isolate if you have covid now ... you can go to work and they "suggest" you wear a mask. I'm just looking forward to being able to put my boots on, and drink my coffee, in a warm lodge and not my car.
  21. The last 2 months I've been on a GPP program which has included things like sled pushes (ugh), 85lb barbell walking lunges (just kill me), sets of 4 and 5 clean and jerks (it burns), and 140lb x20 tempo back squats (whyyyyyy). For sure a lot more lactic acid than I like. Coach says I'll be on similar stuff right up to November, so right in time for the start of the season. I'm actually looking forward to seeing if it helps with my riding this year. Last year I barely rode but I was so out of shape I was dying after 3 hours, which does not give you a great return on a $100 day out, lol. I bought a local season pass this year again, and I'm really looking forward to all the covid stuff being done and the season being back to normal.
  22. I heard that, but I didn't know about Ruapehu. The weather in the South Island (and a lot of the North Island) this winter has been interesting, to say the least. Parents live in a no precipitation zone in Blenheim, and they had a year's worth of rain in a week. Meanwhile in Calgary, this has been consistently the hottest summer I can remember since I moved here 20 years ago. We don't usually get that many days over 30C, and this year we've had weeks of them. It will be interesting to see how this winter shapes up.
  23. if it's monkey poop in your coffee, some people even pay extra for it.
